International Researchers on Contract may come to Turkey upon invitation from local researchers and/or departments at ITU, or upon their own request and mostly employed by Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (Bilimsel Araştırma Projeleri Koordinasyon Birimi), abbreviated as BAP at ITU.

BAP coordinates all scientific research projects funded by:
- Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK)
- European Union
- Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA)
- Presidency of Strategy and Budget
- ITU’s own funds
