246th Academic Year Opening Ceremony at ITU The 2019-2020 academic year ceremony of ITU was held at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center.
The 2019-2020 academic year of our university was held on Monday 16th of September 2019 at the Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center in , Ayazağa Campus. Prof. William R. Shea, who has significant studies in the field of History of Science and Philosophy has, attended to our opening lecture as a guest speaker. Our The ceremony, which was attended by Rector Professor Mehmet Karaca, Vice Rectors, academics and administrative staff and many students have participated. The opening lecture was finished, commenced with a mini concert that is performed by a faculty member and students from the ITU Turkish Music Conservatory.

Karaca has took to the stand and went on to say commented, “Today we are very proud to before being in the opening ceremony for the 246th academic year of Istanbul Technical University which is , one of the most rootedoldest universities of our country. Beginnings are always a herald of innovations for us all of us. This year, Istanbul Technical University will once again continue its tradition of being an unique rooted university by defending providing an the necessity of high-end executing education in extensive campuses and many areas spaces of joint for research and studies rather than limiting our lessons between four walls. Moreover, our aim is to teach our students a way of life, not rather than just sticking to text books. We want them to learn how just those written in their academic program. To share life with other lives students by with the getting in the habit of sustainable lifestyle resolutions existing on campuses, to keep learning continuously at the 24/7 open library located at thein our Ayazağa Campus, to provide a bondbe able to get the necessary network with the industry while they are still student sector via whilst still a student through our career center, Teknokent and career days. We are obligated to take the legacy of being a university which played an important role in the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire, trained scientists for the world’s leading establishments and political leaders have stemmed from its structure, even further each year. OurWe will motivate ourselves part is to be inspired by from our past former success storieses and to generate knowledge that enriches life and is tightly coupled to a rationale mind. At the end of his speech, Rector Karaca has presented the certificates of achievement plaques to the students who entered attended ITU this year with the highest scores and also to Professor. Ahmet Gül, who received the TÜBİTAK Science award in the field of fundamental sciences.
During the ceremony, students Halit Ayar from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Berker Kaplan, from the Department of Information Systems Engineering, who have had both lost their lives recently, were also remembered commemorated.

During the opening lecture of our academic year Prof. Dr. William R. Shea gave the 2019-2020 Academic Year Opening lecture. Professor. Shea was said quoted as saying; “Dear students, today you are very lucky to have been for being accepted by this great amazing university. Throughout the history of humankind, we are in fact living the best days ever. We found solutions for Now, where many disasters and epidemics have been overcome, data of nearly all humankind is at our fingertips through computers. Dear engineering students, the future is in your hands and is your homeland.” Professor. Shea, in his presentation entitled “Technology for a Better World” , went onto gave someive information about the benefits of technology in every field, the power of computers, robots, virtual world and the effect of the engineers on technology, and additionally, technology addiction, connection among computers and the fast changing in social facts.
