Science Week at İTÜ with French Universities:
INSA & Rouen Normandie University
Science week activities during 17-18 September were organized with the attendance of 7 scientists from French Rouen National Applied Sciences Association (INSA) and Rouen Normandie University within the framework of the dual academic cooperation agreements signed in 2017. The activities were a good example for İTÜ’s internationalization policy and the conference leg, held on 18th September at Süleyman Demirel Cultural Center, drew special attention.
Prof. Cafer Özkul, coordinator of International Relations, thanked the İTÜ Rectorate, French Embassy and INSA administration for the sponsorship of the activities in his speech before leaving the floor to Rector Prof. Karaca to deliver his opening speech. Following Rector Karaca, Prof. Alper Ünal, Vice Rector responsible for R&D, summarized İTÜ’s R&D and technology transfer activities, especially bringing to the fore the numbers of joint scientific publications with French univeristies and research associatons and the potential of academic collaboration. Christian Gout, Assitant General Director for INSA R&D delivered a institutional presentation on behalf of INSA Rouen Normandie.
After opening speeches, the sessions were held regarding R&D laboratories and scientific presentations. Prof. Dr. Cafer Ozkul, chairman of the meeting, extended his gratitude to Prof. Dr. Neşe Özdemir, Dean of Faculty of Science and Letters, for her great efforts in organizing the meeting.
The sessions proceeded throughout the day and the first of the sessions was about chemistry, biology, health science and technologies, the second one was about physics, material science, fluid physics and engines, the third one was about mathematics, informatics and information sciences. In the morning sessions, French scientists, on behalf of INSA and Rouen Normandie University, Xavier Pannecoucke (COBRA Lab.), David Vaudry (DC2N Lab.), Maité Vicré-Gibouin (Glyco-MEV Lab.), Philippe Pareige (GPM Lab.), Bruno Renou (CORIA Lab.), Samia Ainouz (LITIS Lab.) and Christian Gout (LMI Lab.) respectively gave a brief information about the laboratories which they are responsible of and then delivered their scientific presentations.
Thematic presentations in 6 different sessions were carried out.
In the afternoon session, under the same titles and three sessions, İTÜ R&D labs were thematically presented and scientific presentations were delivered. These presentations were undertaken by 15 İTÜ faculty members. In order of presentation; these faculty members respectively are Prof. Dr. Oğuz Okay, Prof. Dr. Turan Öztürk, Prof. Dr. Bülent İnanç, Prof. Dr. Arzu Karabay Korkmaz, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı Kumbasar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cem Servantie, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuzhan Gürlü, Assoc. Prof. Hakan Karaağaç, Prof. Dr. Hasancan Okutan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri Solak, Prof. Dr. Samet Yücel Kadıoğlu, Asst. Prof. Dr. İzzet Göksel, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Altan Çakır, Prof. Dr. Şule Öğüdücü and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sanem Sarıel.
Before ending the program, moderator Prof. Dr. Cafer Özkul extended his gratitude to the participants giving introductory and scientific presentations who achieved a successful event, particularly to the Faculty Deans and Institute Directors, and the attendees.
Post-Doctoral Scholarship for 3 Students
This meeting’s agenda covered topics such as; Erasmus+ graduate student exchange, co-advisor PhD studies, hosting mutual post-doctoral studies, project preparation for ANR/TÜBİTAK call and possible partnerships in the framework of Europe Horizon 2020. Opportunities offered by partner institutions and French Embassy were emphasized and the possibilities to benefit from researcher status for visiting scholars were discussed. It is also reminded that French Embassy and İTÜ will provide post-doctoral scholarship for 3 nominees by the joint call starting in the beginning of 2019.
