As part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Japan, a delegation of 38 members—including experts from the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education’s Global Talent Development Division, as well as principals, teachers, and students from seven Tokyo high schools—visited Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Ayazağa Campus on Wednesday, November 5, 2025. The visit was accompanied by Şeyma Şahingöz Sekmen from the Directorate General for European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of National Education. During the visit, students from Mukagaoka, Fukagawa, Kasai Minami, Hachijo, Osaki, Higashiyamato, and Higashimurayama Nishi High Schools had the opportunity to explore ITU’s academic environment and campus life.

The delegation toured ITU’s Ayazağa Campus, recognized as the “greenest campus in Türkiye”, ranking 22nd in Europe and 38th globally according to the Green Metric index. The visitors expressed their admiration for the campus’s student-friendly atmosphere, its harmony with nature, and the convenience of its transportation network. A presentation session followed, featuring Vice Coordinator of the International Relations Office Ebru Koç, Coordinator of the International Student Office Ferhat Çakıröz and Representative of the Registrar’s Office Samet Muratoğlu, who provided an overview of ITU’s history, academic achievements, dual-degree programs, international rankings, global partnerships, international student admissions processes, and the wide range of opportunities offered to students.

Within the framework of ITU’s internationalization vision, a workshop was held to promote cultural and academic interaction between Japanese high school students and ITU students. Participants exchanged ideas on ITU’s strong academic foundation, the advantages of its global networks, student exchange opportunities, and international career prospects after graduation. The visit concluded with the delegation experiencing ITU’s renowned cafeteria, noted for its healthy and diverse menu that reflects the university’s commitment to inclusivity and student well-being.
