Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ) Electrical and Electronics Engineering Faculty Dean, Prof. Serhat Şeker stated that the "İTÜ VLSI Testing and Characterization", "Electro-optical hardware" and "Wireless Communications Research," laboratories housed at İTÜ would provide a significant contribution in the development of Turkey's own advanced technology and electronic products.
Prof. Dr. Şeker, pointing out that currently, the popularity micro-electronics is on the rise, with increased demands from industries such as defense, automotive, health, and banking, and especially manufacturing industries, noted that the microchip measurement and characterization laboratory at İTÜ would continue its work in this area at full speed.
Our Dean, Prof. Dr. Şeker stated: “In the forthcoming period, we will also start working on different areas of artificial intelligence by opening the Cognitive Systems Laboratory, and we will especially develop our work on quantum computation here. Also the installation and opening of the 'Intelligent Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis Laboratory' in the Faculty will be the only laboratory in Turkey in the monitoring of critical processes in industrial systems."
"ASELSAN's contribution is big"
Prof. Dr. Şeker, stating that the VLSI lab has the distinction of being the first of its kind in Turkey, emphasized that in addition to university resources the Ministry of Development and ASELSAN had contributed largely, saying:
“With the VLSI Measurement Laboratory, İTÜ will add yet another important contribution to Turkey and the world. This will ensure İTÜ's continued scientific leadership in these issues and to become an international attraction center for such strategic technologies. The staff of the laboratory is made up of experienced Turkish scientists who have done similar studies abroad before. In these laboratories we are able to determine the required characterization of microelectronics and their products, microchips. The microchip laboratory does not work only on academic studies but also on the needs of industry. The electro-optical equipment laboratory is another aspect of the rapidly developing science of photonics in the faculty. It has many industrial application fields in addition to medical applications. The Wireless Communication Research Laboratory has successfully carried out research activities on 5G and 5G + and cognitive networks. By opening the Cognitive Systems Laboratory in the forthcoming period, we will start working on different areas of artificial intelligence. We will especially be working on quantum computation here. New generation computers will change lives.
Pointing out that the concept of technology has changed according to this, Prof. Dr. Şeker emphasized that one of the most concrete developments on this subject will be experienced in computer technologies, especially the new generation computers which will change lives.
Prof. Dr. Sugar said the concept of speed in computer technology has been redesigned, saying: "Quantum computers are on the way. With the widespread use of quantum chips, all concepts change of access to information and information processing will change. The technology of serving data processing technology to users around the world are now on the verge of a major change. The speed of systems that will handle users' communication-based frequency of use, particularly in health, energy, communications, finance and everyday consumer sectors, will increase. This means that data will be available to consumers much faster, especially advertising, promotions and personalized campaign announcements.”
